Description: Adolescence is a time of
transitions and change. Anyone who has a child or student with
Aspergers or High-Functioning Autism knows that transitions are when
problems are most likely to emerge. Adolescence is one of the biggest
transitions in a person's life. This workshop focuses on issues
surrounding adolescence for children with Aspergers or High-Functioning
Autism. The goal is to help those who care for children with AS or HFA
to be better prepared for some of the challenges that come with adolescence. Some topics included are:

increased complexity of Social and pragmatic language demands

changes in sleep that occur with the onset of puberty

the tension between comfort and autonomy

development of greater age-appropriate skills of
daily living

increased likelihood of clinically significant
Anxiety or Depression

About
the Presenter:
Dr. Robert Montgomery has over
two decades of experience working with diverse populations across a
range of settings. He is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst as well as
traditional licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Montgomery has served
on the Board of Directors of the
Association for
Science in Autism Treatment, the original American Psychological
Association Task Force on Empirically Validated Treatments, on the Alabama
Behavior Analysis Peer Review Committee, and as Chair of the Clinical
Behavior Analysis Interest Group of the
Association for Behavior Analysis.
He has published in a variety of professional journals on such applied
topics as compliance training, medication effects on developing brains,
reduction of aggression, and overcorrection. He has conducted FBAs and
developed behavior plans for children and adolescents in homes, public &
private schools, residential facilities, psychiatric hospitals, and a
variety of other settings over the past twenty years. He has also
taught clinical and behavioral courses at Argosy, Auburn, and Georgia State
Universities. Dr. Montgomery is currently licensed as a psychologist in
Georgia and registered as an Approved Continuing Education coordinator for
the Behavior Analysis Certification Board.
